Pre-Conference Workshop: Renewable Energy 101/201

Are you new to the renewable energy industry, or do you have new employees that would benefit from our Renewable Energy 101 Session? Get a valuable baseline education from renewable energy experts before launching into the conference.

This pre-conference workshop, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Center for Resource Solutions, is designed to provide background and information resources essential for maximizing attendees’ experience of the 2008 National Renewable Energy Marketing Conference. Expert speakers will provide a general overview of green power, a brief history on the development of a market for clean, renewable energy, background on the greenhouse gas (GHG) Marketplace and its interaction with renewable energy markets. Attendees will receive a detailed introduction to the key industry issues, players and products that affect the progress of green power, as well as insight on past, present and future market indicators. This year the workshop will be presented in two sections:

101 Topics include:

  • Important Renewable Energy Definitions and the Basics of the Electric Grid
  • Renewable Energy Certificates 101: Tracking, Regulation, Resources
  • Green Market Trends: Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs), Competitive Electricity, and Utility Green Pricing Programs

201 Topics include:

  • State of the Renewable Energy Marketplace: Politics, Players, Policies and Progress
  • Introduction to Carbon Offsets and the State of the GHG Marketplace
  • RECs versus Carbon Offsets: Differences and Similarities

Utility representatives, renewable energy providers, environmental advocates, and businesses interested in green power and its interplay with the GHG market should attend to gain information to prepare them on a range of important topics.

The workshop will cover both program and market-specific information strategic for newcomers to the renewable energy industry and provide an overview of the Conference Agenda and explanation of all featured sessions. The 101 / 201 workshop will precede the opening reception of the 2008 National Renewable Energy Marketing Conference, and the registration fee is $100 (included with full registration).
